RYA Youth training - August 2018

The first rain we’ve seen for weeks did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of the six youngsters (Daisy, Amelia, Guy, Baxter, Will and Izabela) who attended the first of this year’s RYA Youth training courses at the club. In spite of some very challenging conditions all of our intrepid young trainees braved the wind and waves to put into practice the various manoeuvres they’d learnt on the club’s ‘state of the art’ sailing simulator - what other training centres wouldn’t give for this! - all under the watchful eye of our Chief Instructor, Helen North, ably assisted by her husband Ted on the support RIB and half a dozen or so club volunteer beach-hands. Some of the parents were also seen helping launch and recover the support boats, assistance that was genuinely welcome with two heavy boats and the rapidly falling tides. Unfortunately the deteriorating weather on the second day prevented everyone other than Daisy completing the course - Congratulations Daisy!

They are all going to be coming back in a couple of weeks time when the conditions will hopefully be a little kinder and all six will gain their well earnt sailing certification.
